Joel 2: The Day of the LORD?

Joel 2: The Day of the LORD?

We have been looking at the Old Testament book of Joel.  As a review: A Bible that had been burned in the recent wild fires in SE Tennessee Mountains has drawn a lot of attention.  The badly charred pages were rolled back to disclose the book of Joel chapter 1:15-19.  What does it mean?  Could it have been a sign or a warning from God?  I am leaning that direction in the hope that someone will be curious enough to do soul-searching regarding their position with Jesus Christ, our Savior.

Joel chapter 2 begins with the demand to “Blow the trumpet in Zion”!  According to Numbers 10:7;  this was a signal of an enemy attack.  Joel had just described the locusts’ attach like an future invading, powerful army.  This terrified the people in and around Jerusalem similar to the description of the people’s reaction to the end time army John wrote about in Revelation 9:3-10.

“The day of the LORD is coming,  for it is at hand.” (Joel 2:2 NKJV)  The environmental disturbances described by Joel are common in biblical descriptions where God wages war (Psalms 18:7, Nahum 1:5 and Matthew 24:29).  Joel  gave a call of repentance in verse 12: “Turn to Me with all your heart,” (Joel 2:12 NKJV)

Again Joel commands “Blow the trumpet in Zion” (Joel 2:15 NKJV).  But, this time it’s for an assembly of believers!  A chance for them to recommit their lives to the LORD.  For Him to forgive them and bless them if they would repent!  And this time, again, the LORD hears His people and Judah did receive His mercy and the LORD withheld His judgment.  (Joel 2:20)  The rest of the second chapter of the book of Joel is God refreshing the land with rain and restoring what the locusts had destroyed.

Is it possible that God allowed this burned Bible to be discovered and shared in order that we would receive this message and come together as God’s people and recommit our lives to Him, as LORD!  Jesus died for the forgiveness of our sins!  He is ready to forgive and bless our families and nation!  “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. ”  (John 3:16 NKJV)
